When I hear people say “I can’t because I don’t have the money,” my first response is always, “That’s not true.”
While I may not say that to their face, I know for a fact it’s a lie they are telling themselves. And we’ve all done it at some point. We’ve all used money as the excuse for not getting what we desired – whether that was an experience, business opportunity, or that purchase you’ve been eyeing for months.
While the Attitude of Neutrality tells us that money is neither good nor bad, it also teaches us that money can’t tell us yes or no. It’s neutral.
We are the ones who choose how to leverage it.
Which means it isn’t responsible for holding us back from opportunities or experiences. We are.

3 TRUTHS
- When people say they can’t do something because of money, it’s not true. Money is a resource that we control, so we need to stop using money as an excuse and instead find the real reason we are saying no.
- If money doesn’t determine our yes or no, then money can’t be blamed for not getting what we want. The only thing stopping us is ourselves.
- If we really want something, we’re going to do what it takes to get it. The more committed we are to what we want the more we’ll actually generate the money we need to fulfill that desire.
2 ACTIONS
- Identify the last time you said ‘no’ to an opportunity because of money and the last time you said ‘yes’ to an opportunity without giving money a thought.
- Compare the two experiences. Determine what actually drove your decision in each instance.
