I spent a lot of years in the tech sector completely unhappy with what I was doing.

I was good at what I did, but it stopped being challenging and it never really filled my internal desire to make a positive impact.

For years I tried to figure out how I could use my tech skills to do something meaningful.

Yet I was too afraid to jump ship because I thought I was “doing the right thing” by staying in my job.

Not only did I know there was great money in the tech industry, but I had a wife to support, a mortgage to pay, etc.

But I was miserable.

Eventually, a company I worked for did something that completely crossed my line and I quit on the spot.

In that moment, the paycheck and benefits mattered less than my moral and professional compass.

What happened next was really interesting.

I went all-in on my business.

I was the happiest I’d ever been.

And money followed, still making it possible to contribute to my family income and expenses.

Looking back, I wish I had trusted what I already knew… that making decisions based on money (or resources attached to it) will never make us happy in the long run… and quit sooner.

Every day I meet with people who are basing their decisions on money, especially in business.

In the corporate world, it may look like not wanting to switch jobs because they’re convinced no other job will pay them what they get paid now. Or no other benefits package will be as good.

In entrepreneurship, it can look like changing course too soon because they haven’t seen the money flow in yet. Instead of sticking to their passion or mission, they chase after something they think will bring in more cash.

When we let money be the thing that makes the decision for us, we give our power away.

We stop being leaders in our lives and our businesses.

We must take that power and leadership back.

We have to give ourselves permission to do things or go places that align with who we are more than our bank accounts.

We’ve got the whole equation reversed.

Putting money first in our decisions doesn’t lead to more money.

Putting ourselves and our passions first, does.

Here’s the 3-2-1 on not allowing money to be the deciding factor.

3 TRUTHS

  1. When we let external forces drive our decisions we give our power away. We need to be the leader in our lives and businesses and make decisions based on our passions, dreams, and goals not on money.
  2. If we make decisions based on money, we’ll never be happy and we’ll always hold ourselves back from what we can really accomplish.
  3. Money should be the byproduct of our passions and leadership not the gatekeeper to our dreams and desires.

2 ACTIONS

  1. Think about a decision you made recently and get curious about who really made the decision.
  2. I teach “the how” of separating your decision-making from money (and what to do instead) in Procedures for Prosperity. To know if this is the next best step for you, schedule a call with one of my coaches..

1 QUESTION

  1. If it weren’t about the money, benefits, or resources that are connected, what would I be doing?
