I run into a lot of people who say things like, “I have enough.” “I have what I need.” “I live a nice life.” “I’m fine where I am.”
The words ‘nice’ and ‘fine’ have always set my teeth on edge.
They are words we often say out of complacency; we’ve accepted where we are because we believe it’s the best we can do.
We aren’t being honest with ourselves (or others).
What we are actually doing when we say ‘fine’ is avoiding the work to dig deep and truly discover what we want.
We need to understand what’s beneath our complacency and ask ourselves why we have settled.
Did we compromise on a dream? Did we get to a place where we feel we can’t grow anymore? Have we been chasing the money instead of pursuing a passion or exacting a vision?
When the outlook is “fine,” that’s our cue to stop, notice, and reflect on what’s actually going on under that one word.
“Fine” is never fine.
Here’s the 3-2-1 on moving out of complacency.
3 TRUTHS
- Most people are not living the life they want to live. They’ve settled for where they are and then try to convince themselves it’s good enough.
- We can have enough, we can have our needs met, but still desire something else and something more. Wanting more does not make us ungrateful for what we have now.
- If we are saying we’re fine, that’s an indication we aren’t. That word should trigger us to find out what we are truly dissatisfied with and then disrupt it so we can level up.
2 ACTIONS
- Identify the areas of your life you’re qualifying as “fine” and ask yourself why.
- List one thing you can do to disrupt “fine” and up level to “awesome.”
1 QUESTION
- Do I really have what I want?
